1/48 Revell F-14B, VF-11 Red Rippers

The F-14B was built using the Revell F-14D kit. I used a Steel Beach update set for the RIO cockpit and added a hand controller from a BB F-18 update set. Kit has been rescribed and all of the anti-collision lights were made out of toothbrush handle.

Some additions were made to the cockpit including scratchbuilt throttles, landing gear, flap and tailhook handles and a couple of True Details GRU-7 ejection seats were added to the stock cockpit tub. ejection handles on the seats were made from yellow and black thread twisted together and a gun camera was added above the coaming on the front cockpit..

Also, ECM fairings on the intakes were added using parts from the Academy F-14 kit, as was the TCS set..also taken from an Academy kit. A GPS dome was made from the seeker tip from a Revell AIM-9 Sidewinder.

The model was painted with Gunze acrylics and weathered with pastel chalks and a variation of Kaan Gok's USN weathering method, as well as some post-shading of panel lines.

Decals are from Twobobs VF-11 MUTHA decal sheet and I chose to build Ripper 201, the CO's jet.
