Academy 1/48 F-14A, VF-41 Black Aces

This is Academy’s 1/48 scale F-14A. It’s built out of the box for the most part except for the Steel Beach upgrade set which added the glove vane sensors, gear door antenna and various other blades for a modern "A" variant. I also used Steel Beach bomb racks.

I rescribed the forward cockpit using a Hasegawa kit and a lot of reference photos as guides. I realized that the gun gas vents were wrong shortly after decaling so I had to carefully putty, sand and re-contour the vents to resemble the new NACA vent.

I used the excellent Tamiya spray primer. I then preshaded with black along the panel lines. Model Master enamels were used for the TPS scheme. I used graphite dust from a pencil and diluted acrylic washes for weathering. The decals are from Yellowhammer
