1/48 R/M F-14A, VF-32 Swordsmen

This F-14 (BuNo 162701 )is painted in the markings of VF-32 "Gypsy 200" as she would have been seen following the squadron's cruise aboard the U.S.S. John F. Kennedy in 1989.

On January 9th, 1989 two of the squadrons F-14's were approached by two Libyan MiG-23's and following several agonizing minutes of maneuvering, the Tomcats shot down the MiG's due to their aggressive behavior.

The two Tomcats involved never carried "official" MiG kills following the engagement. However, the CAG jet (Gypsy 200) did get adorned with the two kills (even though it was not involved).

I guess I'm fascinated with all the events surrounding the Gulf of Sidra incidents as the only other Tomcat that I built depicted one of the jets from the earlier encounter in 1981!

It has truly been a fun build!
